Integrated Dermatology Group of Reston

You’ve probably heard that you should see a dermatologist annually for a skin cancer screening.  And we hope that you are doing that!  But do you know what questions you should be asking your dermatologist in Northern Virginia?

If you have lots of questions before your appointment, but tend to forget everything you wanted to know once you’re in the exam room, consider this your dermatologist appointment cheat sheet!

  1. Do any of my moles look suspicious?  Your doctor should let you know if they find anything that concerns them, but it never hurts to ask for confirmation.  If there are any moles that look suspicious, your doctor may want to remove them for a biopsy.
  2. Is my skincare routine working and can you recommend any products?  Whether you are concerned about aging, sun damage, dry skin, or other skin conditions, your doctor will be able to examine your skin and let you know if your routine is effective.  They may be able to make recommendations for other products to try to achieve your desired results.
  3. How does my diet affect my skin?  If you are experiencing breakouts or other skin issues, your diet may be to blame.  Many patients find that gluten, dairy, fast food, fried foods, and sugary foods can affect their skin.  Your doctor can help you with an elimination diet or other tests to find the best diet for your skin.
  4. How can I minimize the effects of aging?  In addition to recommending a good sunscreen and skincare regimen, your dermatologist can also provide many non-invasive cosmetic procedures to reduce the effects of aging on your skin and help you reach your aesthetic goals.  These include botox, fillers, laser therapy, and peels.
  5. What cosmetic treatments would you recommend?  As a skin expert, your dermatologist can make recommendations on the latest treatments and procedures to help keep you looking and feeling your best!  Asking about them will ensure you’re receiving the best treatment possible!
