Pixel Laser: All About the Popular Skin Rejuvenation Treatment

What is the Pixel Laser? If you know anything about laser technology, you know that lasers are one of many methods used for skin rejuvenation treatments.

If you know a little bit more about laser treatments, you know that there are ablative and non-ablative procedures. For the patient, the main distinction between the two is that ablative procedures tend to be more effective, but have a longer downtime.

The Pixel Laser is one such ablative treatment.

Rejuvenating the Skin With Precision

To understand how the Pixel Laser works, it’s important to put it in the context of its contemporaries.

Most ablative laser resurfacers remove a whole top layer of skin. Energy from a laser hits water in the surface layers of the skin, vaporizing some of the skin as well as the water.

Even these lasers are very precise, targeting only the very top layer of the skin. But the Pixel Laser improves this precision even more. The Pixel Laser is so named because it delivers its energy in a pixel like grid, made up of either 49 or 81 pixels, each dot going about 20 to 50 microns deep.

Traditional lasers remove the entire layer wholesale. But the Pixel Laser removes in specific targets in a grid, leaving the surrounding tissue intact.

Why? Because by leaving the surrounding tissue intact, the body can heal that much faster — the collagen production stimulated by the precise damage to the skin being facilitated by the surviving and healthy tissue around the target area.

What happens? Not only is collagen synthesized, but skin texture is improved due to a skin tightening effect that occurs due to the heat.

The whole treatment session is done within 15 minutes, and the patient is left with a much quicker downtime due to the precise nature of the treatment.
