Kybella is a non-surgical and FDA-approved treatment for submental fullness. Now, you might be saying to yourself, “what does that mean?”
If you’ve ever looked in the mirror or at a photo and been surprised or unhappy by the appearance of a double chin, that’s what it means. In fact, a 2015 study by the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery revealed that 67% of individuals are concerned about excess fat under their chins.
Fortunately, Kybella is able to permanently eliminate excess fat cells under the chin to streamline the jaw and slim the face without surgery, incisions, or downtime.
Before undergoing cosmetic injections to blast their double chins, patients should be fully informed about the treatment’s process, results, and risks.
Here’s everything you need to know about this revolutionary double chin treatment.
Kybella is a non-invasive injectable treatment for moderate to severe fat under the chin. It’s comprised a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is naturally produced in the body to break down fat.
When administered beneath the chin, Kybella gradually destroys adipose cells and renders them incapable of storing fat. They are then metabolized by the body over the next several weeks and permanently eliminated from the treatment area.
Prior to receiving Kybella, individuals will have a consultation with an experienced injector to discuss their concerns, goals, and medical history and determine whether or not they are a candidate for treatment.
Patients do not need to do much to prepare for Kybella, as it’s a non-surgical procedure, but they should be well aware of the risks, benefits, and alternatives beforehand.
On the day of treatment, the chin will be marked and a topical anesthetic or ice will be used to numb the area. Then a series of 20-30 Kybella injections will be administered, and the whole process takes about 15-20 minutes.
Most patients find the treatment very tolerable, and they can resume all normal activities immediately after.
While Kybella does not require any downtime, mild pain, swelling, bruising, redness, and numbness may be experienced for up to 1-2 weeks post-procedure.
For optimal results, most patients require 2-4 Kybella treatments. Individuals with more significant submental fullness may need up to 6 sessions.
