Can I Drink Wine After Botox?

If you have had Botox injections, you may be wondering “can I drink wine after Botox”?  We get it!  It’s nice to relax in the evenings and have a glass of wine, but you don’t want to risk compromising your results.  Keep reading to find out if it’s safe to have a glass of your favorite red, or if you should put a cork in for the night.  We’ll also share a few more Botox aftercare tips to help ensure the best results possible from your Botox in Reston, VA.

For Best Results, Skip the Wine After Botox

When you are investing time and money in your appearance, you want to make sure your results are the best they can be!  For that reason, we recommend skipping wine after your injections for at least a couple of days.  It’s also best not to drink for 24 leading up to your appointment.

Alcoholic beverages, including wine, can act as a blood thinner.  This means you may see an increase in bruising and swelling at the injection sites if you drink wine after Botox.  As a result, your recovery may take longer than necessary.

Alcohol can also be dehydrating, which is not great for your skin at any time.

There is also a possibility that you may feel slightly drowsy, dizzy, or lightheaded following your Botox treatment.  Alcohol can increase these feelings and make it difficult to tell what the cause is.

Does Alcohol Ruin Botox?

Drinking alcohol won’t ruin your Botox, but if you enjoy your favorite spirits too soon following your Botox injections, you’ll likely see bruising and swelling that wouldn’t be there otherwise.

Schedule your Botox treatment at least a two weeks before any special event, like a wedding or party so that you can enjoy the maximum benefits.  You’ll look and feel great and you can enjoy your cocktail of choice!

Botox Aftercare: Get Botox Results You’ll Love

Now you know where we stand on wine after Botox, but is there anything else you should or shouldn’t do after your Botox in Reston, VA?

  • Stay Upright: Avoid lying down for several hours after your appointment.  This could cause your Botox to migrate and effect your results.  For this reason, it may be best to schedule your appointment earlier in the day if you prefer an early bedtime.
  • Skip the Gym: For 24 hours after your appointment, skip any kind of strenuous exercise.  This could cause Botox to migrate and may make any swelling or bruising worse.
  • Hands Off: For at least 24 hours, avoid touching or rubbing your face.  This means that you shouldn’t schedule any other facial treatments like microneedling, lasers, or facials following your Botox injections. Take care when washing your face and applying skincare products, using a gentle touch.
  • No meds: Certain medications like aspirin or ibuprofen can increase the risk of swelling and bruising.  Avoid taking these before and after your treatment.
  • Hydrate: To make sure you feel your best, be sure to drink plenty of water before and after treatment.

Avoiding wine after Botox and following these tips will help your Botox to look it’s best!  Remember that it will take 5-7 for you to start to notice the effects of Botox and 10-14 days for full results.  Most patients enjoy smoother, wrinkle free skin for 3-4 months before needing touch up injections.
