Best Treatments for Acne Scars

If you’ve suffered from acne, you’ve probably felt self-conscious about your skin and appearance.  Even after acne has cleared, you may be left with scars that leave you feeling not as confident in your appearance as you’d like.  Fortunately, Integrated Dermatology of Reston offers some of the best treatments for acne scars.

After a consultation with our team, you’ll have a personalized treatment plan for any acne breakouts you’re still experiencing and strategies and treatments to help minimize visible scarring.

What Are The Best Treatments for Acne Scars?

There are several non-invasive cosmetic treatments on the market that can help minimize your acne scarring and leave you with bright, smooth, clear skin.  The treatment that is right for you will depend on the severity of your scarring.

  • Microneedling for Acne Scars – Using a device with tiny needles, small wounds are made in the skin.  As the skin begins the healing process, collagen production increases.  This helps to smooth scars as well as fine lines and wrinkles.  Most patients need three to four microneedling treatments for best results and yearly follow-ups are recommended.  Aside from some redness following your treatment, side effects are very minimal.
  • Laser Treatments for Acne Scars – When you have a laser treatment for acne scars, a wand-like device is used to remove the upper layers of skin.  Newer, smoother, more youthful-appearing skin is then revealed.  The intensity (and downtime and results) can vary depending on which laser is used.  Your dermatologist will be able to make recommendations based on the severity of your scarring.  Results from laser treatment for acne scars are long-lasting, giving you beautiful skin for years to come.
  • Chemical Peel for Acne Scars – This non-invasive treatment is best for those with moderate scarring.  A chemical peel improves your skin by creating a deep exfoliation.  Most patients will benefit from a series of treatments.
  • Fillers for Acne Scars – For deep scarring, fillers may be used to plump the skin, resulting in a smoother appearance.  When fillers are used, results are immediate and will last for around a year.
